The Pursuit of Knowledge: CURTIN, LOOKING EVER FORWARD

A new exhibition on campus is a must for staff and students to visit ... explore the shared vision of Curtin the man and Curtin the University.

How much do you know about John Curtin, the wartime Prime Minister after whom our University is named? And where can you bring your family and visitors to find out more about the range of innovative research taking place at our University?

The title of the exhibition is taken from a 1932 article written by John Curtin'The Pursuit of Knowledge is far more important than even knowledge itself'.

A visit to the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library's new exhibition, The Pursuit of Knowledge: CURTIN, LOOKING EVER FORWARD will, in the words of Dr Ken Michael, Governor of Western Australia, ‘entertain, educate and excite you'.

The exhibition is now open between noon and 5pm weekdays at the John Curtin Gallery, near the Kirribilli Cafe, on Curtin's Bentley Campus.

The Pursuit of Knowledge explores the passionate commitment to education shared by Curtin the man and Curtin the University.

The exhibition takes its title from a 1932 article by John Curtin in which he wrote:

'The pursuit of knowledge is far more important than even knowledge itself. It involves discipline and training, which in turn are moulders of character. That is why the Labor movement has always striven, even passionately, for educative opportunities for all.'

It features images of John Curtin's early schooling at the end of the19th century and the opportunities he had for reading widely, studying and teaching through the Victorian Socialist Party, which helped him move on to a career in journalism where ‘a drop of ink will make millions think'.
